About Hilde

Searching for new colour combinations, stretching the
boundaries of design and creating jewellery that excites and inspires are
central to Hilde Kiernan’s work.

Based in Westmeath, but originally from Norway, Hilde did not
always intend to become a jewellery designer.
‘I began my creative career almost by accident.  Initially I was simply looking for a creative
outlet to enjoy – and then passion took over,’ explains Hilde.   ‘I can still vividly remember my first
delivery of beads and stones – I felt like all my Christmases had come at once.
Soon I was designing and making jewellery virtually full time.

Hilde’s work incorporates beads, pearls, semi-precious
stones and crystals – and there is a strong emphasis on colour.  ‘I love to stretch boundaries, especially
where colour and shape are concerned.
Finding that perfect combination is what drives and inspires me,’ says
Hilde.

For her design is a process of exploration – which begins
with a selection of beads, pearls, stones and crystals on a large white
plate.  The process of identifying the
ideal combination is key – and it is only then that she will begin to structure
the piece.

‘I tend to have eclectic tastes.  I love non-flat ceilings, abstract shapes,
unusual architecture, ornate and quirky features – and I think this comes
through in my work, bringing a playful and somewhat unique aspect to many of my
pieces.’
